Diaconate institutes 19 as readers

ROMEOVILLE—Nineteen men from the diocese who are pursuing studies leading towards ordination as a deacon were instituted into the Office of Reader Oct. 5 at a Mass celebrated by Bishop J. Peter Sartain in the St. Charles Borromeo Pastoral Center Chapel.

During the rite, Bishop Sartain admonished the men to “meditate on God’s word constantly, so that each day you will have a deeper love of the Scriptures, and in all you say and do show forth to the world our Savior, Jesus Christ.”

The rite concluded as each man knelt before Bishop Sartain and placed his hands on the Sacred Scripture as Bishop Sartain said, “Take this book of Holy Scripture and be faithful to handing on the word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of his people.”
