This year due to hard work and dedication, three Irish wrestlers are competing in the state championship IHSA State Wrestling Meet. The meet takes place in Champaign on Feb. 15-17. Senior Mike Letton is competing in the 285 weight bracket, junior Mario Zinanni is competing in the 215 weight bracket and junior Jon Young is competing in the 140 weight bracket. Mac students lined the halls as the three boys were led through Mac’s “gauntlet” by a drumline.
From Sweet Sixteen to Elite Eight, the Lady Irish Basketball Team has played their way to being one of the final eight teams left in the IHSA class 2A state tournament. On Feb. 14, the Lady Irish defeated Momence 59-45 to earn the Sectional Championship. The Irish will take on Addison’s Driscoll Catholic in the Super Sectionals on Feb. 18 at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais.
McNamara is very proud of both teams and their athletes. Their dedication to their teams and hard work and effort at each practice has made this possible. We wish them continued success and luck in their next events.
